Mourinho finds a job at Benfica at 62: "I'm less self-centered."

Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho , announced Thursday as the new manager of Benfica , said at his presentation press conference that he has never felt more honored or motivated at any other club than at the Lisbon team.
"None of the other giant clubs I've had the opportunity to coach have made me feel more honored, more responsible, more motivated than being Benfica's coach," said the 62-year-old Mourinho, who added that he feels "more alive than ever."
The Setúbal coach returns to Benfica after 25 years and explained that he has changed since then. "I'm more altruistic, I'm less self-centered , I think less about myself, I think more about the good I can do for others, the joy I can bring to others. I'm not important, Benfica is important, Benfica fans are important," he added.
Asked what he would say to the Mourinho of a quarter of a century ago, he didn't hesitate to answer that he would tell him that "he did well" in the way he has managed his professional career, and although he admitted that he may have made mistakes, "things went well."
Mourinho has signed a two-year contract with Benfica, which he described as "ethical" and which includes the possibility of termination within a year. For the coach, this is enough time "to win competitions."
Regarding his most immediate challenge, which is Saturday against AVS in the Portuguese League, he recalled that half of Benfica's players are on their second day of recovery and that he can't change "everything at once," following Tuesday's Champions League defeat against Qarabag of Azerbaijan.
"We have to go onto the pitch knowing that we're not just 11, that we're millions of players, and think about them," he added. "From a tactical point of view, I'm going to put my finger in, but very controlled. I don't want to distort the essence, and I'm not capable of changing much. And in all honesty, many things were done well by my predecessor."
FenerbahçeMourinho replaces Bruno Lage , who was dismissed following Tuesday's defeat to Qarabag and last weekend's draw with Santa Clara in the domestic league. Mourinho himself was recently sacked by Turkish side Fenerbahce after they were eliminated from the Champions League by losing 1-0 to Benfica in the final qualifying round.
The coach returns to the helm of Benfica 25 years later, having previously held stints with clubs such as Real Madrid, Tottenham, AS Roma, Chelsea, and Manchester United. He has two Champions League titles with Inter Milan and Porto, a Europa League with Manchester United, a Liga Confetti with AS Roma, and a UEFA Cup with Porto. He also won a Spanish league title with Real Madrid, three Premier League titles with Chelsea, and two Calcio titles with Inter Milan.
Mourinho returns to Portugal, where he managed Porto between 2002 and 2004, Leiria between 2001 and 2002, and Benfica in 2000.
